continuous observation

Continuous observation refers to observation of an object at pre-determined intervals to obtain spatial information over time.
If one wants to observe changes in cells over time,time-lapse imaging provides information that is otherwise difficult to extract from visual observation or isolated still images.
If one wants to observe a large number of cells at once by expanding the field of view in XY, or to reliably track the movement of cells that would not stay in a single field of view, it is effective to tile the image capture operation, scanning a grid of images across a large area and stitching those images together into a single composite image.
