neurite length

Neurite length refers to the length of the neurite. Neurites include both dendrites and axons, which are types of cell body projections. The axon is one long protrusion that propagates signals from the cell body to other cells.
Neurites appear as heavily branched dendritic protrusions. Dendrites from one cell receive signals propagated by the axons of other cells at structures known as synapses. Since neurite length correlates with the degree of differentiation of neural stem cells, it is common to measure the length of the neurites by immunostaining, imaging, and analysis.
