incubator

An incubator is an essential system for culturing cells, being used to maintain temperature, humidity, and carbon dioxide concentration at their optimal values.
When culturing cells of mammals such as humans, the temperature and the humidity are generally set to 37℃ and 95%, respectively. The recommended carbon dioxide concentration varies with the culture conditions, but it is often 4-10%, and then the oxygen concentration is lower than that in the atmosphere.
The term "incubator" generally refers to a thermostatic system, which is used for purposes other than cell culture as well. The system specifically used for cell culture is sometimes distinguished and referred to as a "CO2 incubator." There is also a "multi-gas incubator" that can control both CO2 and O2 concentration.
