induction of differentiation

Differentiation induction means that stem cells induce differentiation into different cells by contact with cells or stimulation by differentiation inducing factors. Induction can be achieved in various ways, including growth factor action, specific gene transfer, and treatment with low molecular weight compounds in vitro.
hPSCs (human pluripotent stem cells) such as human iPS cells (induced pluripotent stem cells/iPSCs) and human ES cells (embryonic stem cells/ESCs) can be induced to differentiate into the various tissues of the living body.
Induction of differentiation into each cell type is not a single process, and differentiation induction protocols have been developed that involve sequentially changing the agents and compounds in various steps. The efficiency of differentiation induction requires evaluation of the degree of differentiation in each process and also depends on the quality of the starting hPSC.
