umbilical cord blood

Umbilical cord blood is the blood contained in the umbilical cord and the placenta. Because it contains stem cells in abundance, it is used for transplantation into patients with blood diseases such as leukemia and is also expected to be used as a raw material for regenerative medical products.
Umbilical cord blood is rich in MSCs (mesenchymal stem cells) and EPCs (vascular endothelial progenitor cells). The development of new regenerative medicines using these cells, including the development of cell therapies for intractable immune diseases, is attracting attention.
